6.9.17 – NY State 17th District for Progress requests meeting with Sen. Felder on key issues

On 6.9.17, NY State 17th District for Progress sent the below meeting request to Sen. Felder’s office. This blog will be updated with any response received.

Dear Sen. Felder and Felder staffers,

My name is John V. Santore, and I’m writing you on behalf of NY State 17th District for Progress, an organization led by 17th District residents aiming to begin a constructive and ongoing dialogue with Sen. Felder on critical topics facing the district and the state.

We are requesting an on-the-record meeting with Sen. Felder as soon as possible before the end of the current legislative session so that we can discuss several key issues with him, including:

– The New York Health Act (S4840)
– Legislation requiring the state of New York to release the state tax returns of federal officials, including Donald Trump (S5572A)
– The New York State Liberty Act (S4075A)
– The Reproductive Health Act (S2796)
– The speed limit on Ocean Parkway.
– And our request for Sen. Felder to begin holding regularly scheduled town hall meetings (we circulated a petition in support of this idea which currently has 109 signatures – http://bit.ly/2r2DwRj).

As constituents, we believe it is deeply important to learn where Sen. Felder stands on these matters. And if he doesn’t have a position on them, we want to learn what information and analysis he’s waiting to see before taking a position.

We are happy to discuss the logistics of our meeting request with you – for example, whether Sen. Felder would be able to host one meeting in person, whether he would prefer several shorter meetings, or whether he would only be able to speak on the phone with us. By an “on-the-record” meeting, we mean that the conversation will be recorded, so that we can make it publicly available.

Finally, we have circulated a petition in support of this meeting request. Please find the below list of Brooklyn signatories, including dozens of people in Sen. Felder’s district.

Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to speaking with you further.

Sincerely,
The members of NY State District 17 for Progress
